HARRISBURG -- The four competitors for a valuable resort hotel casino license will have to wait a while longer to see who wins the jackpot.

The state Gaming Control Board won't make a decision on who gets the Category 3 license at its meeting today, said spokesman Doug Harbach. He didn't know when the board will issue a license to either Nemacolin Woodlands in Fayette County, or to a convention center south of Gettysburg, or to a Holiday Inn west of Harrisburg, or to the Fernwood resort in the Poconos.
The license would permit the winner to add 600 slot machines and several dozen table games, an addition that is expected to draw many more visitors to the winning location.

Civil War historians fear that adding a casino a few miles south of the historic battlefield will sully its aura and reputation. But advocates said that location will draw bettors from Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia, and argue that rest of Pennsylvania is already well supplied with casinos. Officials at the Meadows racetrack/casino in Washington County are concerned about losing bettors to Nemacolin, 60 miles away.
