Rabinowitz, others, on Dem slate

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Add Joni Rabinowitz, the founder of anti-hunger group Just Harvest, to the long list of candidates vying for Allegheny County Controller. (UPDATE: Actually, don't. She says she has reconsidered.)

The Park Place resident, who retired as co-director of the group at the end of 2009, joins previously announced names George Matta, the former clerk of courts, Valerie McDonald-Roberts, the county real estate office head, and Chelsa Wagner, the state rep from Brookline, in going for the Democratic committee's endorsement in the race.

The slate of those filing a letter of intent for the committee's endorsement vote (which is March 6) includes a bunch of other new names and tidbits (at least to us):

-- Challenging City Council President Darlene Harris in council district 1, Vincent Pallus of Brighton Heights and Bobby Wilson of Spring Garden

-- Challenging incumbent Ricky Burgess in city council district 9, East Liberty social worker Phyllis Copeland-Mitchell (joining fellow challenger Lucille Prater-Holliday)

-- Doug Shields, as we've speculated, is running for district judge and not reelection to council. He's running against Hugh McGough and Dan Butler for outgoing DJ Nathan Firestone's seat.

-- Barbara Daly Danko, the the 14th ward chair, is running for Rich Fitzgerald's county council seat, now that he's taking on Mark Patrick Flaherty for the party's nomination as county executive

-- The names in the hat for Common Pleas judge spots are Alex Bicket, Eleanor Bush, Marc Daffner, Leah Williams Duncan, Michael Marmo and Jennifer Satler
