Toomey's subcommittees

Pennsylvania's freshman GOP Sen. Pat Toomey scored himself some prime fiscally oriented committee assignments a few weeks ago. Today, the Commerce and Banking committees revealed which subcommittees Toomey will serve on. His other two committees -- the Bob Casey-chaired Joint Economic and Budget -- don't have subcommittees.
On Banking, Toomey gets the Housing, Transportation and Community Development subcommittee; the Financial Institutions and Community Protection subcommittee; and the Securities, Insurance and Investment subcommittee.
On Commerce, he snagged the Aviation Operations, Safety and Security subcommittee; the Communications, Technology and the Internet subcommittee; the Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance subcommittee; and the Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety and Security subcommittee.
So Toomey will be protecting consumers times two, and looking at financial institutions and securities makes sense for a guy who was a trader on Wall Street and in Hong Kong. Hat tip to the Inky's Tom Fitzgerald, who points out that the Communications/Technology/Internet post is a valuable one for a guy whose state is home to Comcast, and the aviation one makes sense for the licensed pilot.
