Tomblin leads in WVa $$$

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Union endorsements are nice, but so is incumbency. Interim WVa Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin led all the state's gubernatorial candidates with $1 million in contributions as of reports filed Friday night, leading fellow Democrat (and endorsements winner) Rick Thompson, the House Speaker, who had $665,000.

On the GOP side Morgantown drilling consultant Bill Maloney raised $139,000 and self-loaned $250,000, hurtling him past establishment pick Betty Ireland, the former secretary of state, who raised $79,400 and had a family loan of $125,000.

Their primary is May 14.
