Dahlkemper gets 3d party challenge
As if the field in the third district wasn't crowded enough, libertarian Ebert G. "Bill" Beeman is entering the group challenging Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper, D-Erie, this fall. A slew of Republicans also is challenging the freshman Dahlkemper, who is in a fairly conservative district and voted in favor of the controversial health care bill.
But the Erie County Councilman, who needs to mount a petition drive to get on the ballot, also has some troubles with the feds.

Political newcomer Ebert G. "Bill" Beeman's call for smaller government catapulted him past several candidates to a seat on Erie County Council in November.
His supporters are hoping that momentum, combined with what they say is anger at the "Republicrats," will carry him to Washington, D.C.
Beeman, a Waterford notary embroiled in legal battles with both the state and federal government, is making a bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania recently nominated Beeman to be its candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, a seat held by Kathy Dahlkemper, a Democrat from Erie. ...
Beeman, a retired General Electric welder, is appealing multiple convictions for driving on a suspended license. He is also challenging in federal court the Internal Revenue Service's claim that he owes $2 million in unpaid income taxes dating back to the 1990s.
His trouble with the IRS began several years ago, Beeman has said, when he turned about $1,200 into $100,000 by day trading on the stock market and failed to file returns for several years.
