"Outrage" at USS Murtha?

Published by Daniel Malloy on .

As we told you the other day, the Navy will name a war ship for the late Rep. John P. Murtha, D-Johnstown. The Web site of Fox News put up a story Thursday saying the decision has "outraged some critics." But the article is little more than a lengthy retelling of Murtha's various controversies during his lengthy career.

So who's outraged? According to Fox, it's the Washington Times editorial board, which published a piece critical of the decision, and an unnamed "blogger" who said honoring the scandal-tinged congressman "seems oddly premature." Through the magic of Google, Early Returns has learned that this blogger is known as "The Conservative Wahoo" and describes him/herself as a Navy veteran and University of Virginia graduate with center-right views.

Now Early Returns has spotted a few more blog posts expressing pique at the decision in the past couple of days -- so these are hardly the only two examples -- but a news organization might want to cite a bit more evidence before declaring there's a rising tide of "outrage" out there.
