We were reminded after writing the Adam Ravenstahl fundraising post below that Bill Lieberman (pictured) has landed a spot lately on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission board. (Yes, that turnpike commission. He's replacing the commissioner -- Timothy Carson -- who resigned after getting picked up for two DUIs in state vehicles, in the times he didn't use a state marketing employee as a chauffeur.)

Lieberman is well-known on Grant Street, though probably not to most voters. He was a major fundraiser for now-indicted former House Speaker John Perzel, who appointed him to the first iteration of the city's oversight board when it regularly battled with then-Mayor Tom Murphy. He left that panel to become an investor with partner Charles Zappala in the failed Forest City/Harrah's casino bid for Station Square. Lately, he has joined Mayor Luke Ravensthal's pension/parking sale panel, which includes another Zappala partner, John Verbanac.

From Gov. Ed Rendell's office:

Harrisburg – Governor Edward G. Rendell today nominated William K. Lieberman of Pittsburgh to a four-year term as a member of the five-person Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. The nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.

Lieberman has been President of The Lieberman Companies since 2003 and has a strong background in insurance and pension-related issues.

Lieberman serves on the boards of AMPCO Pittsburgh, Genco Distribution System and Hussey Copper, Ltd. He is active in the community, serving as a trustee for the University of Pittsburgh and as a member of the Shady Side Academy’s board of directors.

Upon Senate confirmation, Lieberman will fill the vacancy that resulted from Timothy Carson’s resignation from the Turnpike Commission in early February.
