Classy move by Specter
From the NYT's Carl Hulse:
Senator Arlen Specter is a politician who detests losing but he made a magnanimous gesture on Tuesday to Representative Joe Sestak, the man who defeated him in last week’s Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Specter, who was bruised enough by his loss to miss some Senate votes, introduced his recent foe to Senate Democrats at their weekly lunch.
It was the first time that Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, and no doubt other lawmakers had met or heard from Mr. Sestak.
In other Senate notes, PoliticsPa notes Pat Toomey has not been as quick to praise Supreme Court pick Elena Kagan as he was Sonia Sotomayor last year:
Pat Toomey will wait to hear Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan testify at her confirmation hearing before deciding whether he would support her appointment, he said Tuesday.
“Every once in a while it would be refreshing if politicians did less talking and more listening,” the Republican U.S. Senate nominee told PoliticsPA in a statement. “I look forward to listening to Ms. Kagan’s testimony, and to learning more about her views and background.
“I have an open mind about her nomination,” he said.
